Sun damage on Indian skin: why SPF still matters at FST V
The myth that brown skin doesn't need sunscreen is the most damaging lie in Indian skincare.
Melanin gives SPF ~13 of natural protection — useful but not enough for Indian UV (some of the highest in the world). UV drives pigmentation, fine lines, and skin cancer risk even on FST V–VI.
Use mineral or hybrid SPF 30+ daily. Reapply every 3 hours if outdoors. Indoor users still need it — UVA penetrates windows.

FAQ
Does brown skin really need SPF?
Yes. Melanin reduces but doesn't eliminate UV damage.
Mineral or chemical SPF?
Both work. Mineral leaves a slight white cast; modern Indian brands have solved this for brown skin.
How much SPF to use?
Two finger-lengths for face and neck. Most people use way too little.
